Multi-pattern condenser microphone offering outstanding precision, clarity and detail
The Sontronics Orpheus has established itself as an absolute must-have for vocal, instrument and ensemble recording, and has also become renowned as the best room/overhead mic at this or indeed at any price. Indeed, one producer calls Orpheus “the best reverb plug-in money can buy”!
Orpheus has three switchable polar patterns – cardioid, omni, figure-of-eight – making it fantastically versatile, while its unmistakable presence, defined clarity and incredibly low self-noise allow you to capture the subtlest of performances that will sit perfectly in the mix.
Its classy sound and crystal clear delivery have resulted in Orpheus becoming a first choice for voiceover artists, while in pairs it is an absolute go-to for overhead drum and choir recording too.

"I'm constantly excited by the results I get from Orpheus. It sounds so full bodied with excellent presence on vocals, drum overhead or as a room mic."
Simon Gogerly, Producer/Engineer (Paloma Faith, U2, Massive Attack)
The large spherical grille allows Orpheus to capture all the detail from the space it's recording in
Orpheus's capsule sits within a large spherical grille that allows the mic to soak up every detail of the vocal/instrument as well as the space it’s recording in.
On the front panel of Orpheus you’ll find attenuator pad control, which features a -10dB cut as well as a unique +10dB boost function.
Not to be found on any other mic in the world, the +10dB boost enables you to place Orpheus further away from your source than you might do normally, capturing even more room ambience while still providing a strong output signal with zero additional noise.
Orpheus is supplied with a special angled mic adaptor to give you plenty of flexibility whether you’re in a cathedral, flying it high above a stage of choristers or using it in a compact vocal booth.
Orpheus was originally designed to perfect reproduce all the character and tone of acoustic guitar, but it also gives incredible results on vocals and speech, woodwind and strings and has also become a go-to mic for overhead and ambient recording, either individually or in pairs.
"Orpheus has such great bite without losing any clarity or detail. It's become a go-to for anything and everything, from vocals to acoustic guitar, snare drum to piano, and it's an incredible room mic too!"
Flood, Producer (Foals, U2, Depeche Mode)
